Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate scrapes or drags on the drive surface - this usually means the hinge-side weld has let go or the post has shifted. The weight of the gate settles onto the unsupported corner, and the opener has to push against gravity as much as the gate itself.
• The operator arm rattles or knocks at the attachment point - a loosening bracket lets the arm chatter under load. Left alone, the slop wears the arm’s pivot bushing and eventually wallows out the hole in the bracket until it fails outright.
• The gate stops mid-travel and reverses - BFT control boards sense amperage, and a binding weld or misaligned rack forces the motor to draw more current than the board allows. It shuts down to protect itself. The motor is fine; the metalwork is not.
• A weld cracks and you can see daylight through it - especially at the bottom hinge or the operator mounting plate. This is the failure point we see most in Southlake, where the clay soil shifts with rainfall and freeze-thaw cycles slowly work the welds.
• The gate leans noticeably toward the latch side - enough drop that the latch no longer lines up. That’s a hinge weld or a post base failing, and it means the structure is out of square. Welding a reinforcement plate buys time, but the root of the problem is at the hinge.
